It's about time there was something like this. While I already use a Korg nanopad with Serato to perform most of these functions, I have to say the smaller size of this controller is appealing. There's rarely a stable and accessible spot to put my nano in any given dj booth. The design is very clever (using the spot for a 45 adapter cutout on the turntable itself) and it looks like a lot of fun. This gadget will be hard to resist. The Dicer should be available in late June/early July and are priced at $100.

"prepared" turntables
Conrado Almada directs and hand illustrates this music video for Brazilian band Skank. Apparently, they are the Ok-Go of Brazil. Or Ok-Go is the Skank of the US. ahem. Anway - this video has so many great details. I really like how the embedded footage of the band performing is also stop-motion, made from many small stills from video footage. There's a "making of" video too, though I wish it was more in-depth. The band has embedding turned off for the video, so you actually have to go to youtube to see it.
Our party is going to be on the third Saturday just for April, (instead of our usual second Saturday) due to a conflict with the venue. We promise the third Saturday will be just as sweaty and wild as the second. This month, our guest dj is 100 Spokes! 100 Spokes comes out of the Grime City crew, who are credited with bringing grime, 2-step and dubstep to San Francisco and the U.S. 10 years ago! 100 Spokes plays sexy dubstep, some hard hip-hop, and has some serious skills. We're stoked!

We're back! See you February 13 at Li Po Cocktail Lounge! We've got a bunch of new remixes for you, and DJ Campbell is our guest DJ. 
It's NAMM time, and all the product announcements are almost too much to keep up with, but Rane's new mixer definitely caught my eye. FINALLY an *elegant* solution to switching between Serato DJ's that won't look like 100 clowns getting out of a mini cooper. This would be a great mixer for clubs to invest in. It also means that Scratch Live can now support 4 decks, a popular feature request that Traktor has had for years. If only the SL1 or SL3 hardware could support these 4 "virtual" decks. From what I understand so far, the virtual decks will appear in Scratch Live V2 and are only accessible if using the Sixty Eight hardware. At an estimated $2700 for the mixer, that doesn't make access to 4 decks too easy. The new built in DJ FX, however, are good to go with any hardware. Ableton and Serato also released actual real details about the collaboration they announced over a year ago. They're calling it The Bridge. It's free, only works with the full version of Live, and means that Scratch Live and Ableton Live (coincidence?) can play nice together. Looks like Rane/Serato/Ableton have been really listening to their forums and the results of the user survey (where they found out most of their users, or at least the ones who took the survey, are dance/club DJ's, not Scratch DJ's!) and are making some exciting upgrades.
